CHIMNEY INSPECTION
A chimney inspection should give you clear answers, not confusing sales talk. We take a careful look, show you what we find, and explain what it means in plain language.
FROM FIREBOX TO CAP
We follow the chimney from the room to the roof. The goal is to find visible damage, buildup, water entry, and anything that may affect safe use.
We look for damaged surfaces, heavy buildup, rust, and parts that do not move as expected.
We check visible liner areas for gaps, cracks, buildup, and signs that venting may be affected.
We look for open joints, loose material, staining, and places where water can enter.
We check the top of the chimney and nearby roof area for weather damage and weak points.
A CLOSER LOOK
Some problems are hidden above the fireplace. A camera view can help us look farther into the flue and document areas that cannot be seen clearly from below.
We use those images to explain the condition of the chimney. You do not have to take our word for it.
A REPORT THAT MAKES SENSE
Your inspection report should help you understand what looks good, what should be watched, and what needs attention. We avoid vague wording and explain the reason behind each finding.
Not every stain means a rebuild. Not every crack can be ignored. We separate routine maintenance from problems that need timely repair.
THE RIGHT TIME TO CHECK
You do not need to wait for a major problem. These are common times when a closer look is useful.
01
A check before regular use gives you time to handle a problem before cold weather.
02
An inspection can show chimney conditions that a general home inspection may not cover closely.
03
Strong weather, falling debris, or a chimney fire can change conditions inside and above the roof.
04
Smoke, odors, staining, loose brick, or a change in draft deserves a clear answer.
INSPECTION LEVELS
We ask a few simple questions about the chimney and explain which level fits the situation.
LEVEL 1
Often right when you use the same fireplace in the same way and nothing major has changed. We check visible parts, clearances, and signs of buildup or blockage.
LEVEL 2
Common when buying or selling a home, changing an appliance, or after an event that may have damaged the chimney. This level may include a camera review.
LEVEL 3
Used only when there may be a serious hidden problem that cannot be checked another way. The access needed is explained before anything is opened.
BUILT FOR LOCAL WEATHER
Water can enter through a worn cap, cracked crown, open mortar joint, or weak flashing edge. It may travel inside the chimney before a stain appears in the room.
An inspection connects the visible sign to the likely entry point. If damage is found, our chimney repair page explains the next step. If buildup blocks the view, chimney cleaning may be needed first.
INSPECTION OR CLEANING?
An inspection answers questions about condition. A cleaning removes soot, creosote, and loose debris. Some appointments need one service; others need both.
Start with the service that matches what you know now. If you are not sure, describe the problem and we will point you in the right direction.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Straight answers before you schedule.
What does a chimney inspection include?
The exact scope depends on the inspection level. A typical visit checks accessible parts of the firebox, damper, flue, masonry, crown, cap, and nearby roof area, then explains visible concerns.
How long does a chimney inspection take?
Many inspections take about an hour, but size, access, buildup, and the need for camera review can change the timing.
Do I need a chimney cleaning before an inspection?
Not always. If heavy soot or debris blocks the view, cleaning may be needed before the flue can be evaluated properly.
What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?
Level 1 is a basic check of readily accessible areas. Level 2 adds a closer evaluation and is common after a change, concern, or real-estate transaction.
Will I receive photos?
Yes. Photos help you see what we found and understand any recommended next step.
